Cyclones snap 16 game Big 12 losing streak with win at Nebraska

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA (KWWL) -- Iowa State was poised and made the plays down the stretch to come away with an important 56-53 win over Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday night. The win, which improves ISU's record to 12-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, ends a 16-game conference road losing streak.

Cyclones did it with a total team effort, as ISU, which was depleted to just eight scholarship players available, had seven players scored six points or more in the tight game. It was the first road victory for Cyclone juniors Craig Brackins, Diante Garrett and Lucca Staiger.

"I couldn't be more happy for our team," ISU head coach Greg McDermott said. "We have guys on this team who had never won a conference road game and they are pretty happy right now. I thought the final two minutes of the game was the best we have played all year. We switched some screens, contested shots and did not let them have a lot of second opportunities."

Marquis Gilstrap led ISU with his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 boards. ISU ended a four-game streak of getting outrebounded, outboarding the Huskers, 45-36.

ISU travels to Texas Tech on Wednesday. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
