Haiti phone bank raises $18,000

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The American Red Cross, Barmuda Corp., and KWWL-TV partnered to help raise money for relief efforts in Haiti through the Helping Haiti phone bank.

Representatives from the Red Cross, Friends of the Waterloo Center For the Arts, and Barmuda Corp. took calls from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday.

The effort raised more than $18,000. All of the money goes to the Red Cross and its efforts in Haiti.

If you would still like to help, visit your local Red Cross chapter, or text the word Haiti to 90999 for a $10 donation that you'll see on your cell phone bill.

You can also donate at any Barmuda location. Barmuda CEO, Darin Beck has traveled to Haiti and was planning another trip before the earthquake hit.

Park Place Event Centre is also hosting a Haiti Relief Brunch on Sunday, January 31st, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. All of the funds will be given to those in need in Haiti through the United Christian International, a non-profit organization based out of Orange City, Iowa through Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls.
