UNI realigns adminstrators, some academic areas

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Budget cuts are forcing consolidation at the University of Northern Iowa.  The school announced Thursday it's realigning some adminstrators and combining some academic areas.  The College of Humanities and Fine Arts will merge with the College of Natural Sciences while the Department of English Language and Literature will combine with the Department of Modern Languages.  School officials say students won't notice the changes.

"For the average student, they're not real aware of our demarcation lines of colleges and those sorts of things. What they care about is the programs that are available to them, the majors that are available to them. What his combination should do is give students more opportunities and more choices to choose from," said UNI spokesman James O'Connor.

O'Connor says the school isn't sure how much money would be saved through the changes.  The Board of Regents will have to approve the plan.
