Riverside residents lose power Wednesday

RIVERSIDE (KWWL) - More than four hundred Eastern Iowans were in the dark Wednesday night, after a power outage.

Alliant Energy customers in Riverside lost power around 3 PM Wedesday, after a transformer blew. We spoke with residents both with and without power. Some had backup generators, others were just bundling up a bit to deal with the loss of power and heat.

The Casey's gas station was one of the handful of buildings in town with power. Just behind it is where crews were working on the blown transformer. Crane operator Jamie Townsend, of Townsend Crane Service, was waiting for the replacement transformer to be trucked in from Iowa Falls.

"Being set up with a semi, it shouldn't take but, I would guess, about a half an hour," Townsend estimated of the time it would take for the replacement.

Officials said that it could take until about 2 AM Thursday to finish the repairs, and restore power.

The residents we spoke with who were without power said they were just glad that temperatures have been above-average.
