Teen gives hand-made blankets to Dubuque shelters

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Dubuque homeless shelters have new, warm blankets thanks to a Dyersville teen. National American Miss Iowa Junior Teen, Alicia Ney made 27 fleece blankets.

Wednesday, she and her family delivered them to the Theresa Shelter and Dubuque Rescue Mission. She said she wanted to do the project because it was getting so cold outside, and she wanted everyone who has to stay in a shelter to have a warm blanket.

"It was definitely a family effort. My two sisters helped me definitely. Sometimes we'd turn on the t.v. And all watch it and work together. Even my dad got into it, so that was pretty funny," Ney said.

Ney says she wants to get her school, Beckman High in Dyersville, to get involved with the service project next year.
