Iowa continues to build "green" workforce

DES MOINES (KWWL) – A new report suggests Iowa added thousands of "green collar" jobs to its workforce.

Governor Chet Culver released the "Green Jobs Initiative Committee" final report Wednesday.  The data confirms 8,169 workers have entered the field of environmentally-friendly jobs in 2008.

"I believe we can build our economy, and open opportunities for thousands of Iowans through continued investment in new, ‘green' industries," commented Governor Culver.

He added, "this report confirms that Iowa is fast becoming a leader in the cutting edge field of environmentally-friendly job creation, and proves that what is good for the environment is also good for economic development."

The Committee consists of representatives of Iowa Workforce Development, the Iowa Utilities Board, Iowa's Community Colleges, the Department of Economic Development, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Public Safety, and the Office of Energy Independence.
