Work continues on Cedar Rapids traffic cameras

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- As the weather continues to warm up a little, work on the traffic enforcement cameras in Cedar Rapids has started up again.

Wednesday, crews started installing poles for the new cameras at 1st Avenue SE and 10th Street and at 2nd Avenue SE and 10th Street.

The crews will be working on the installation as long as the weather is good.

According to Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, the cameras on I-380 will probably be the last ones to be installed as the city and the Iowa DOT work out issues related to some signs that may need to be moved in order to install those cameras.

The I-380 cameras will only monitor speeders while the other eight cameras will monitor both red light runners and speeders.

The eleventh camera will be a mobile unit that will monitor both red light runners and speeders.

Once all of the cameras are up and running, a 30-day grace period will start before any tickets are actually handed out.
