"Race" to improve Waterloo Schools

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Waterloo school leaders are signing on to the state's "Race to the Top" application.  Iowa schools have until 4:30 Wednesday afternoon to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, essentially agreeing to participate in the federal grant program.

According to Superintendent Dr. Gary Norris, five Waterloo schools are included in the state's list of 35 "persistently lower-achieving" schools.  While the news sounds negative, it could make Waterloo schools eligible for hundreds of thousands of dollars to improve student achievement.

Tonight on Iowa's News Channel 7 at 6:00, we'll learn how school leaders are working to turn Waterloo Schools into the highest-achieving in the state.
