Benefit for Independence fire victims

INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -- A benefit will be held later this month to help a young Independence couple that lost everything to a fire in December.

Brad and Carlen Shannon got married on February 3, 2009, bought a house in Independence and were planning to start a family.

Those plans came to a screeching halt on December 10, 2009 when a fire broke out in their garage, spread to the house and took everything.

The couple lost their house, their car and their pets.  On top of all of that, Brad suffered 2nd degree burns racking up tremendous doctor bills.

Family and friends have come together to help out the Shannon's by planning a benefit concert.

It will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the 4-H Building in Independence from 7:00 p.m. to Midnight.

Spin Spin Coupling and Superholic will be playing and will donate the $10 cover charge per person to the Shannon's.

Food provided by Fareway and Wal Mart of Independence will be available with a free will donation.

You can also make a donations to The Brad and Carlen Shannon Benefit Fund at any Bank Iowa location.
