New Cedar Rapids Councilman believes he's being targeted

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Don Karr is a little more than a week into his term as an at-large councilman and already he believes someone is trying to put him in an uncomfortable position.

Karr went to the city hall offices on Thursday, January 7, 2010 to check out his new cubicle and see what he could bring into his office.

He left at around 5:30 p.m. that evening after checking to make sure all the drawers and cabinets were empty.

Karr returned to his office the next day at around 4:30 p.m..

After getting his computer and voicemail squared away with the Information Technology Department, he went to put the case for his laptop computer into the top filing cabinet drawer and found something unexpected.

Karr found pornographic pictures that he says were printed off of a computer and weren't there the night before when he left.

After checking with some fellow council members to make sure it wasn't a joke, Karr says he took them home to throw them away because he didn't want anyone in the building to find them.

After talking with his wife, he decided that he needed to file a complaint with the city human resources department.

On Monday he did just that.  He also retrieved the pictures from the trash and brought them to the Cedar Rapids Police Department to be fingerprinted.

Karr believes someone planted the pictures in the drawer hoping someone else would find them.  He believes someone is trying to put him in a bad or uncomfortable position.

Karr says, "Either somebody doesn't like me or is afraid of what I'm going to do as a council member."

Police tell us that they are just assisting the city with a personnel investigation.
