UPDATE: Dubuque shooting victim identified

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Dubuque Police say the victim in the Monday downtown shooting is 20-year-old Geromey Gilliand of Dubuque.

Around 3:30 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in Dubuque Pawn at 2160 Central.  Witnesses say they heard three shots.  After the shooting, Gilliand ran across the street to the Road Ranger gas station.

Police say Gilliand was shot in the lower back.  He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting was the result of a dispute between four individuals who entered the pawn shop and pawn shop personnel.  Police say the shooter was associated with Dubuque Pawn but was not the owner.  Police say the shooting stems from a reported assault that happened Saturday.

Police reports show a Saturday early morning assault with a victim who has the same last name as the pawn shop owner.  That assault happened at the apartment complex where Gilliand, the shooting victim, lives.  Police will not confirm this assault was the one that led to Monday's shooting.

Police have not released the identity of the shooter.  No charges have been filed.
