Police investigate shooting in downtown Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Dubuque Police are investigating a shooting that happened between 21st and 22nd Streets on Central Avenue in downtown Dubuque.

The shots were heard around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.  A witness says someone was shot near the Dubuque Pawn on Central Avenue. The witness heard 3 gunshots and saw a person with blood on their clothes run across the street to the Road Ranger gas station. That person was later taken away by a Dubuque Fire Department ambulance.

Police confirm a shooting victim was taken to Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds.  The victim's condition is unknown.

Police say they have the shooter identified and they are interviewing that person and witnesses.  Police say the shooting appears to be the result of a "dispute" between the victim and Dubuque Pawn personnel.

No charges have been filed.

The Monday shooting was less than one block from a December shooting outside Knicker's Saloon in which Dubuque Police Lieutenant Scott Baxter was shot and injured.
