Independence Schools Budget Hearing

INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -- Tonight parents, teachers and students are meeting for the first time to discuss major changes to the Independence School District.

The district needs to cut at least $750,000 from its 2010-2011 budget.  Superintendent Devin Embray is proposing to close East Elementary School, and reduce the staff by about 18 positions.

Monday night the school board is meeting for a work session at 5:00.  This will be followed by the first of two public hearings at 7:00.  Both are taking place at the Middle School Commons.

KWWL News Channel 7 is attending both meetings.  Find out what the public has to say, tonight at 10:00.
