Oelwein Armory has a new look

OELWEIN (KWWL)--A $2.6 million project to spruce up a national guard armory in Oelwein is now finished.

Saturday, the Iowa national guard re-dedicated the armory in Oelwein.

The readiness center has more office space, a new training room, an upgraded kitchen and a new vault.

"I just think its important for the citizens of Iowa to understand these armories are part of the community,'' said Public Affairs Officer Mike Wunn. ''They are for the soldiers, for the citizens and this is where our soldiers train as they get ready to go over seas."

The facility is home to two units, both of which served overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2005 to July 2007.
