Rubashkin denied bail

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KWWL) -- The former CEO of the Agriprocessors kosher slaughterhouse in Postville will stay in jail while he awaits sentencing.

A three judge panel from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied Sholom Rubashkin's motion to be released on bail while he waits for his sentencing date.

Rubashkin was convicted on 86 counts of financial fraud in Sioux Falls, South Dakota back in November.  The sentencing date has not been set.

He faces more than 1,200 years in prison.

Rubashkin's attorney, Guy Cook, plans to appeal the decision.

The charges stem from the May 2008 raid of the kosher slaughterhouse in which nearly 400 illegal immigrants were taken into custody.
