Iowa City hires new officers

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Iowa City will have two new officers walking the beat once they complete the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Ashley Hamblin, 22, and Matthew Young, 24, were sworn-in to their new positions on Thursday, January 7, 2010.

Hamblin is from Cedar Rapids and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri and will wear badge number five.

Young is from Sergeant Bluff and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Morningside College in Sioux City and a Masters degree in Security Management from Bellevue University in Nebraska.  He will wear badge number nine.

The two new officers will start the 13 week Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge on Monday, January 11, 2010.  They will then begin a field training program with the Iowa City Police Department.

Hamblin and Young fill vacancies left when one officer resigned and another retired.
