Mega TV expands across Midwest

MIAMI (AP) -- Spanish Broadcasting Systems Inc. is expanding its Mega TV network westward as part of its effort to chip away viewers from Hispanic TV giants Univision and Telemundo.

The Miami-based company is adding affiliates in Chicago and Dallas and in the California cities of Fresno and Palm Springs. Two other markets will be announced Monday.

The network is already distributed nationwide through DirecTV and locally in Las Vegas, Charleston, S.C., Puerto Rico and much of Florida.

Company officials said Thursday the new cities will enable the network to be seen by more than 20 percent of the country's Hispanic viewers, based on Nielsen Co. ratings.

Besides Mega TV, SBS owns and operates 21 radio stations in major cities across the U.S.
