Silver Sneakers comes to local YWCA

Beginning January 1, the YWCA of Black Hawk County will be a Silver Sneakers Fitness Program site. This program is a fully funded fitness benefit for Medicare members who have the Humana plan, Atena plan or Secure Horizons plan (AARP) and covers members in Black Hawk and surrounding counties.

Seniors present their health plan Medicare card and will be given a special membership card which entitles them to our physical plan which is: unlimited attendance in many of the YWCA's fitness and aquatic classes, lap swims, open plunges, plus use of the body shop and gym.

A Silver Sneaker Fitness class will also meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 am.  These benefits are all at no cost to the participant.

Silver Sneakers is a preventative program that empowers individuals to make positive lifestyle choices to improve their health and reduce the risk of disability and disease. This year we are stressing wellness classes because they can help people learn nutrition information, manage stress and reduced the incidence of life-threatening health concerns such as type II diabetes and high blood pressure.
