Brace for another winter storm!

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for all of Eastern Iowa this afternoon through Thursday. KWWL meteorologists say snow will develop this afternoon and continue through Thursday morning, although a few snow showers may continue through the day on Thursday.

The heaviest snow will fall from this evening through the overnight. We will have a couple of inches fall this afternoon, four or five overnight tonight and another couple inches or so through Thursday. All together we will have 5 to 10 inches of new snow. And it will be light and fluffy. Easy to shovel but also very easy to blow around.

The winds will pick up late Wednesday night and continue throughout Thursday. This will cause blowing and, especially, drifting snow. Less traveled roadways may become impassible. The winds will be 15 to 25 mph and will also create dangerous wind chills as temperatures fall Thursday afternoon. A reinforcing shot of arctic air will push into the state behind the snow and we will have bitterly cold temperatures through Saturday before some moderation by Sunday. With fresh snow on the ground highs will remain below average through the beginning of next week, but we may be able to get into the 20s!
