Bars getting ready for a busy Orange Bowl night

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- If you couldn't go down to Florida to see the game in person, there are certainly places to get together with other fans right here in eastern Iowa.

Early Tuesday afternoon, bars and restaurants around Dubuque started getting ready. Between the lunchtime crowd and pre-game festivities, there were only a few hours to transform Lot One into Hawkeye Headquarters.

"Everybody's got their schedule a little bit thrown off today because of the game," manager Curt Guler said.

"We got the Christmas decorations down. We have to put the Hawkeye stuff back up, so that's what I'm doing here today. A little bit of decorating," KDTH radio host and programming director Michael Kaye said.

Managers anticipated a tight squeeze even a couple hours before kick-off.

"It's our burger night tonight which is usually a good crowd anyway, but we're expecting a good hundred-some people tonight," Guler said. "I've already had people calling wanting to make reservations, but it's first come, first served."

Expecting a big crowd, Lot One opened up an extra room: A happy change from a typically slower season

"Usually after the holidays, it does slow down a little bit, but I'm not expecting anything slow tonight," Guler said.

That's because at Lot One, they say even the cold won't keep Hawk fans away.

"It's going to be a warm atmosphere. We're going to have a rockin' good time!" Kaye said.
