1990 UNI Panthers beat Iowa before record UNI-Dome crowd

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Everybody who was in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Jan. 3, 1990 will remember the Hawkeyes getting ambushed by the Panthers, 77-74, before 22,797 fans, in the largest regular-season crowd to see a game by either school.

Iowa, which made 12 of its first 16 field-goal tries, led by 26 points 8 1/2 minutes into the game and never was threatened in beating the Panthers for the 18th time in 20 meetings.

At the end of the game, fans rushed the elevated court in a frenzy of excitement, but it would be the last time officials would let that many fans attend any event in the UNI-Dome.

The Panther season continued as one for the record books, making the school's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance as a Division I school.  UNI was a 14-seed and beat Missouri in Richmond, VA. in the first round.  The team lost in the second round to Minnesota.
