ISU fans come together to watch Insight Bowl

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Many ISU fans in eastern Iowa had to get out of the house to see their team play this postseason.  The Insight Bowl was carried by NFL Network which isn't carried by the state's largest cable provider, Mediacom.  At Beck's Sports Brewery in Waterloo, Cyclone fans packed the lower level.  All keeping track of ISU's trip to postseason paradise.  It's the first bowl game for the Cyclones in 4 years and the first for some fans ever.  Many here couldn't stay home to watch the game because they can't get NFL Network.

"That makes it tough for the general fan base that they have to make special arrangements to come to some place to watch the game so that's difficult but people have done their best to get to a TV set where they can support the Cyclones," said fan Ryan Hansen.

The ISU Alumni Association of Black Hawk County gathered at Beck's to watch the game.  Win or lose, they support their team but they say it's better when fans come together.

"Obviously, it'd be great to watch it at home and everybody would be able to see it but actually coming out with other Iowa State fans, that's kind of a fun way to do it, too," local chairman of the Alumni Association, Geof Grimes.

Even more fun for the fans is a Cyclone win and that's just what they saw New Year's Eve.  In this part of the state, the Iowa Hawkeyes BCS season has gotten a lot of headlines.  But ISU was 2-10 last season, 3-9 in 2007, and 4-8 in 2006 so a winning record this season has Cyclones fans hoping for even bigger things in 2010.
