Iowa Women Beat Wisconsin, 61-51; Get First Big 10 Win

The Iowa Hawkeye woman earned their first Big 10 Conference victory of the young season New Year's Eve, with a 61-51 win over the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin is coached by Lisa Stone, a former Hawkeye star under C. Vivian Stringer in the early 1980's and former coach at Drake.

Iowa's hustling and reliable junior guard, Kachine Alexander, got the 13th double-double of her career, as she scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for head Coach Lisa Bluder.

The Hawkeyes went on a 10-2 run early in the second half to build a 20-point lead at 42-22. Iowa went stone cold for nearly 14-minutes in the second half, but played good enough defense to hang on for the 10-point victory over the Badgers.

Iowa shot 41.3 per cent (19-46) from the field for the game and committed 23 turnovers. Wisconsin shot even worse, hitting just 19 of 56 shots from the field, or 33.9 per cent. The Badgers shot a dismal 27.6 per cent in the first half, hitting only 8 of 29 sots from the floor.

In addition to Kachine Alexander's 21, the Hawks got 13 from Kamille Wahlin, 12 from Jaime Printy and 8 from center Morgan Johnson.
