Update: Puppy stolen in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- On New Year's Eve we reported a story about a stolen pit bull puppy in Cedar Rapids.  At the time, it had a bittersweet ending.  Now, the story has a completely happy ending.

On December 30, 2009, the Cedar Rapids Police Department received a report of a 1-and-a-half month old brown pit bull puppy that was stolen between December 29, 2009 and December 30, 2009.

On Thursday, December 31, 2009, police say a woman heard about the robbery and realized her 5-year old son had just received a similar puppy from his father the night before.  She called police and the puppy was identified by the burglary victim as her stolen puppy.

The puppy was returned to the owner, but the 5-year old boy was left without a puppy.

But now, thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, the little boy now has a puppy.

The mom called police on Monday to let them know that she had received a dog over the weekend for her son.

The dog is similar to the first one, but this one was not stolen.

Police say the case of the puppy napping is still under investigation.
