UPDATE: Mediacom & Sinclair agree on extension

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Hawkeye fans rejoice!  You will be able to watch the Haweyes play in the Orange Bowl if you are a Mediacom customer.

The two sides reached an agreement Thursday afternoon to extend their current agreement for eight days.

This means that the FOX stations in both Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, which are operated by Sinclair Broadcasting, will stay on Mediacom's line-up until at least Midnight on January 8, 2010.

Sinclair and Mediacom have been arguing for weeks over payments for retransmission of Sinclair's signals.

Sinclair is asking for more money for their product, Mediacom says the higher cost would only hurt consumers because it would be passed on to them.

The extension only means the Sinclair stations will stay on Mediacom through January 8, 2010.

If a long-term agreement is not reached by then, 400,000 Iowans could lose FOX and CBS programming.
