UNI Wins 9th In Row--Takes Valley Opener, 60-52 Over Creighton

The UNI Panthers used a stingy defense and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch to open the Missouri Valley Conference Men's basketball season with a 60-52 victory over Creighton Tuesday night at Quest Center in Omaha.

Hustling senior guard, Ali Farokhmanesh, led the Panthers with 15. Kwadzo Ahelegbe added 12 and Missouri Valley Player of the week, Jordan Eglseder chipped in with 11.

It's the 9th straight victory this season for Coach ben Jacobson's Panthers, now 10-1 on the year. UNI led by as many as 12 in the first half. Creighton's Cavel Witter came off the bench to score 8 straight points midway through the first half, after the Bluejay's went stone cold, hitting just 1 of 15 shots at one point. Witter would lead all scorers with 17 on the night.

Creighton battled to take a 4-pount lead in the second half before UNI took control late and quieted the Qwest Center crowd of 17, 152, eighth largest ever for a Creighton game in the Qwest Center.

UNI plays at home Friday night against Evansville and Sunday afternoon in the McCleod Center against Missouri State. Tipoff Friday night is 7:05. Sunday's game will start alittle after 1 PM in the McCleod.
