A Kiwanis luncheon conversation with Senator Grassley

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) had a conversation over lunch with the Waterloo Kiwanis Club at the Waterloo Elks Lodge Tuesday.

A big issue of conversation was healthcare reform.  In a Christmas Eve party-line vote, the measure passed with every democrat and independent in favor..

Despite a record 25 days in session, Senator Grassley says he felt rushed into making a decision.

"I disagree with the speeding up of it because when you're restructuring one sixth of the economy, as a life or death issue and since it didn't take effect until 2014, my feeling is we ought to do it a little more deliberately," Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) said.

The bill must be merged with legislation by the House of Representatives before the President could sing a final bill next year.

The last time the Senate was in session Christmas Eve was in 1895.
