Shoppers go great lengths to find Post-Christmas deals

CORALVILLE (KWWL) - Whatever the reason.

"My girls got money for Christmas and it's burning a hole in their pocket," said shopper Gary Brownlee.

"He wanted the Rock Band for Christmas which of course was the wrong one, so now we're returning it," said Rick Hagans of Washington, Iowa.

"I was buying wrapping paper and supplies for next year's Christmas," said Jen Fulton.

Thousands turned out to Coral Ridge mall to take advantage of great bargains.

Best Buy Customer Solutions Manager Nicole Hodgeman says she sees as much traffic inside the store the week after Christmas, as she does in the time leading up to December 25th.

"It's usually pretty busy.  People shopping and exchanging things," said Hodgeman.

Hodgeman says Best Buy has called in additional staff to handle the large amounts of shoppers.

Many customers were surprised to see stores this full after Christmas.

"I didn't think it would be this crowded today but it's packed," said Hagans.

In addition to heavy crowds at the Coral Ridge Mall, shoppers also had to battle slick roads.

But that didn't hinder Jen Fulton from driving an hour and a half from her home in Richland to shop.

"Once we got closer and on [Highway] 218 it was okay."

Nor did it stop Gary Brownlee and his family coming in from Fort Madison.

"We checked the Internet and checked the roads and it looked like it was going to be okay so we took the chance."

Many shopping early Saturday morning saw less-than-ideal road conditions.

"It was pretty slick on [Interstate] 380 coming down."

Shoppers agree, however, there's one thing that makes it all worth it.

"Best deals of the season," said Fulton.
