More Iowa homeowners take flood buyouts

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- More Cedar Rapids homeowners are accepting buyout offers for flood-damaged properties.

Officials say 17 more homeowners have signed offers for the city to buy their properties, which were heavily damaged in the flood of 2008.

That brings the total number of buyouts to 45 so far among a group of homeowners most at risk of flooding again.

FEMA is helping to purchase the houses to create a greenbelt along the cedar river.

FEMA pays 90 percent of the purchase cost and the state pays 10 percent.
