DOT pulls plows off W. Iowa roads

CHEROKEE (KWWL) - Iowa Department of Transportation snow plows based in Pocahontas, Storm Lake and Cherokee have been taken off the roads due to poor visibility and extreme winter weather conditions.  The DOT says it will reassess the situation for those areas at 5 a.m. Friday morning to determine if conditions are suitable and safe for operators to return to the roadways.  In addition to the problems being encountered in northwest Iowa, road conditions have deteriorated significantly in southwest and west central Iowa where travel is not advised and towing services are prohibited. This includes major highways such as I-29, I-80, I-680, U.S. 6, U.S. 30, U.S. 34, U.S. 59, U.S. 71, U.S. 169, U.S. 275, and Iowa 141.  Travelers are cautioned that roadways may become impassable in areas where snow plows are no longer operating.  For the latest road conditions, call 511 or visit here.
