Fewer Drivers Brave Roads

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Thursday morning, highways were wet, but not as slippery as drivers anticipated. Still, they are taking it slow. Most are going at least five miles under the speed limit by late this morning.

Iowa State Patrol troopers are expecting things to get worse as the day goes on. Lt. Rick Klein said, while the temperature is up above freezing, the rain is a good thing. But once it drops, drivers should watch out for black ice and slick roads.

Klein points out, there is good news is. Troopers are not seeing as much traffic as they would on a typical Christmas Eve.

"I think everybody listened to the forecast the last couple days - got out when they could. And we haven't had probably as much traffic as you might see this afternoon if people had to work today," he explained.

If you are out on the highway, Klein reminds you to allow plenty of room between yourself and the car ahead of you, and of course, wear your seatbelt.
