More H1N1 vaccine voluntarily recalled

Posted:

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Public Health says some H1N1 flu mist vaccine distributed in Iowa is being recalled by the Centers for Disease Control.

The vaccine, manufactured by MedImmune, passed pre-release testing but its potency is now or might soon be below the specified limit.

The IDPH says approximately 46,900 doses of the affected nasal mist vaccine were sent to Iowa and a majority of it was given out in October.

Any vaccine that is still around may not be potent enough to fight the virus.

They say because most of it was given out then, anyone who received it would not need to be re-vaccinated because there is no question about its effectiveness.

2009 H1N1 vaccinations are open to all Iowans. Iowans may find a list of vaccination sites at www.idph.state.ia.us/webmap/default.asp?map=h1n1_vaccine_sites.
