Update: Roads in Northeast Iowa covered snow, ice and slush

Posted:

AMES (KWWL) -- The Iowa State Patrol says travel is not advised for most of northeast and parts of north central Iowa.

Wednesday night, many roads were closed because of conditions, and towing could not take place. That changed early Thursday morning.

The Iowa D.O.T. says air and pavement temperatures are below freezing in many areas, as winds are gusting in excess of 20 mph and light snow/rain mix is freezing on the pavement.

They say roads are becoming very slick in some areas.

Other parts of the state, particularly in the northwest, are mostly or completely covered with ice and slush.
