Trooper injured assisting stranded vehicle

JANESVILLE (AP & KWWL) -- A trooper with the Iowa State Patrol has been taken to the hospital after his vehicle was struck in Janesville.

Authorities said Tuesday that 44-year-old trooper Brian Bartels was helping a stranded vehicle on Highway 218 at the time of the wreck. Officials say Bartels was inside his vehicle and had his emergency light activated when he was rear-ended by another vehicle.

The Iowa State Patrol says Bartels was taken to Sartori Hospital and was treated and released. The road was icy at the location of the accident.
