C.R. Washington Students Adopt Families For the Holidays

The Christmas holiday will be much brighter for five Eastern Iowa families, thanks to the generosity of students at Cedar Rapids Washington High School. The Washington High School students have adopted five families for the holidays. See the press release below:

Students involved in Washington High School's Student Senate organization hope to make the holidays brighter for five Cedar Rapids families.  The student leadership group raised more than $2,750 to buy gifts and meals for the members of five families identified by HACAP.

The students raised the money through a competition among period three classes. The winning class was promised a bagel and juice party. Because of the generosity of many students and staff members, five classes will be awarded with bagels. The winning class - Jackie Niffeneger's Fourth Year Spanish – raised $500!  Brad Metzger's social studies class followed closely behind with $535 in contributions. Third place was taken by Francis McMann's AP Economics class.

Student Senate members will shop for gifts for each of the 33 members of the five families and deliver the items a few days before Christmas.
