Officer cleared in shooting death

WATERLOO (KWWL) - According to Tom Ferguson, the Black Hawk County Attorney, a grand jury in the shooting death of Eric Rule has finished at the Black Hawk County courthouse.

Ferguson told KWWL that the grand jury found no bill of indictment against Waterloo Police Officer Steven Bose. Bose was the one who shot and killed Rule back in September.

On Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 2:18 a.m., Waterloo Police officers were sent to 611 Keystone Street on the report of a domestic dispute between a male and a female.

Shortly after the officers arrived, a struggle ensued between the male subject and the two officers.  When attempts by officers to get Eric Rule under control failed, Officer Bose shot Rule.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to investigate this incident.

The family of Rule could pursue the case in civil court.
