Give your old Christmas tree new life in Cedar Rapids

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Residents of Cedar Rapids have two options to get rid of that Christmas tree once the gifts are opened and the family has gone home.

The first is to give it new life at the Indian Creek Nature Center.

Just bring the trees to the parking lot at the Sac and Fox Bertram Road Trail head.  The lot is open to those wishing to drop their tree off.

The trees will be chipped and used as mulch on the Indian Creek Nature Center trail system.

Trees should be un-flocked and free of all decorations, tinsel, tree trimmings, tree stand(s), nails and tree bags and can be dropped off through Sunday, January 31, 2010.

The second option is to have it picked up by the Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division.

Trees must be cut into three-foot sections, un-flocked and free of all decorations, tinsel, tree trimming, tree stand(s), nails and tree bags.

They can be put out for collection next to your garbage and recycling containers.

Flocked trees will be picked up with garbage collection and should also be cut into three-foot sections.

Christmas trees must be out before 7:00 a.m. on regular collection day.
