Plugge leaving Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The man that has led the Iowa City Community School District for 11 years is moving on to get closer to home.

Lane Plugge has accepted the Chief administrator position with the Green Hills Area Education Association in Council Bluffs.

Plugge says his last day in Iowa City will most likely be June 30, 2010 and his first day in Council Bluffs will be July 1, 2010.

Plugge started in Iowa City in 1999 after spending 12 years in Grand Island, Nebraska.  He was Associate Superintendent for 5 years and Superintendent for 7 years.

He says it will be difficult to leave a school community that has great professionals and that values education.

Plugge will be getting closer to home though.  He has extended family in Lincoln, Nebraska and grandchildren in Omaha.  In fact, Plugge is expecting the birth of his newest grandchild any day now and hopes the impending winter storm will not keep him from seeing the newest addition of the family.

As superintendent, Plugge has lead the district through rapid growth and tightening budgets.

Plugge says as he prepares to step down, he is confident the district will continue to make great strides and continue to provide quality education for its' students.

Plugge will have a 3 year contract in Council bluffs and will make $180,000 a year.
