Minor incident sparks long police chase

DES MOINES (KWWL) - Police say a Des Moines man was in such a hurry to get home after a stretch in prison that he wound up back behind bars.  Authorities say an Altoona police officer tried to pull over Edward Wesley Madison Friday morning for driving with a broken taillight, but Madison sped away. He allegedly led police on a long chase before pulling over and trying to escape on foot.  A spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's office says Madison told officers after his arrest that he had just gotten out of prison and became nervous when he saw the flashing lights in his rearview mirror.  Madison was taken to the Polk County Jail on charges of eluding police, running at least nine traffic signals, probation violation and assault with a motor vehicle.
