UNI's Kalin MVC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS – University of Northern Iowa sophomore Jacqui Kalin has been selected a Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  Kalin was honored for her performance during the period of December 7-13.

A guard for the UNI women's basketball team, Kalin, a sophomore from Sioux City, Iowa, averaged 19.5 points and 5.0 assists per contest, as the Panthers posted victories against UW-Milwaukee (68-59 on Dec. 10) and South Dakota (80-60 on Dec. 13).

Kalin, who has a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average in movement and exercise science, scored a season-high 25 points, on 5-of-9 three-point shooting, and recorded five assists against UW-Milwaukee.  She followed with 14 points, four rebounds and five assists versus South Dakota.

Now in its 11th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies.  On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

"Our continued corporate partnership with Prairie Farms provides an important vehicle by which to honor our top student-athletes," said Commissioner Elgin, who is in his 22nd year with The Valley.  "Our student-athletes are the league's best representatives, and we're happy to recognize Jacqui (Kalin) for her athletic and academic achievements."
