UNI faculty and Board of Regents reach tentative agreement

Posted:

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- United Faculty, the chief negotiating agent for faculty at the University of Northern Iowa, announced Wednesday that they have reached a tentative Memorandum of Understanding with the Iowa Board of Regents.

Details of the agreement won't be released until the members of United Faculty meet to consider ratification.  That meeting won't take place until the first week of classes of the Spring 2010 semester which starts January 11, 2010.

As a result of state budget cuts, all three state universities are dealing with a drastic cut in state aid.  Faculty and staff at UNI are looking at the possibility of furloughs and/or pay cuts.

The faculty have said that they are open to the notion of furloughs or pay cuts as long as things are being done fairly and not singling out faculty.
