UPDATE: Clayton County deputy charged with OWI

ST. OLAF (KWWL) -- A Clayton County Sheriff's Deputy has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated following a hit and run accident on Monday morning.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office got a report of a hit and run accident on December 14, 2009 at around 4:12 a.m. on Highway 18 near Breezy Point Summit.

The investigation found that the vehicle that left the scene was the personal vehicle of Clayton County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Berger.

The Iowa State Patrol was then called in to investigate the accident.

Berger is currently suspended from the department.

He is also charged with Failure to Maintain Control.
