Firefighters Rescue Worker from Silo

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Firefighters rescued a 52 year-old man from a coal silo at Cargill Corn Milling.  Crews were called to the plant just before 11:00 am Tuesday morning for a medical emergency.  The victim reportedly had severe back spasms, and was unable to get down from scaffolding on top of the 100-foot silo.

The first response team asked the Fire Department's Special Operations crew help with the rescue.  They worked with Cargill Corn Milling's emergency team to secure the man to a stretcher, and lowered him to the ground in a basket.

Ambulance crews transported the man to Mercy Medical Center.  He is described as a contracted employee, who is currently helping with iron work at the plant.
