Students pick up gas tab, ask drivers to ''pay it forward''

MARION (KWWL)-- A group of FFA members from North-Linn High School are asking Eastern Iowans to "pay it forward."

Through fundraiser's and donations, the group had about $2,000 to use Sunday. They spread out to five gas stations, including one in Marion.  Then, they rolled dice to pick random people and paid for $10 to $30 of their gas bill.

"What we simply ask today [Sunday] is that those people that we provide anywhere from $10-  $30, that they go forward and do two good deeds for total strangers. So, trying to make the world a better place, and hopefully we do our part," said North-Linn High School Ag instructor, Tom Murray.

The group says for people to "pay it forward," no money needs to be involved.  It can be as simple as opening a door for a stranger.
