Storm delays hearing in Rubashkin case

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- This week's blizzard has delayed a hearing for a former manager of an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse on child labor violations.

Sholom Rubashkin's attorneys want the charges dismissed. A hearing scheduled for Wednesday was canceled because of the storm. A new date was not set.

Rubashkin was charged after an immigration raid at the Agriprocessors plant in Postville in May 2008.

His attorneys argue Iowa Division of Labor Services, which investigated, didn't share information with Agriprocessors about minors working at the plant.

The state claims, among other issues, that minors worked in a slaughtering operation and exposed to dangerous chemicals.

Rubashkin was convicted last month in federal court in South Falls, S.D., on 86 financial fraud charges. Sentencing in that case is pending.
