Eastern Iowa prepares for blast of winter weather

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Tuesday morning road crews were out early to clear away what Mother Nature put in front of them.

"Well they're obviously snow covered. They're not too bad yet for me. I'll find out when I get on the interstate here a little bit, but this is Iowa," said driver, Curt Tibbals of Elk Run Heights.

"The two lanes east and west were pretty well covered still, but 380 and 150 were pretty clear or wet anyway," said driver, Carol Mallory.

Mallory drove from her home in Walker to Elk Run Heights. It was an uneventful drive until she hit the city limits.

"I called my husband and I said I think I just jinxed myself because I haven't seen anybody in the ditch until maybe half-a-mile from my exit here and there were like three cars in the ditch," said Mallory.

Drivers aren't the only ones dealing with the unforgiving weather. Business owners like Ivan Wieland are trying to stay a step ahead with little success.

"Ya know what it's kind of a fun thing for me. No I'm not standing here smiling, whistling while I'm working but I take great pride in the cleanest sidewalks on the corner," said Wieland.
