Decorah wants building named historic site

DECORAH (KWWL) - The Decorah Historic Preservation Commission has been awarded $4,000 to aid in its efforts to have the northeastern Iowa city's municipal pool building named an historic site.  The money came from the State Historical Society of Iowa. It will pay for research, documentation and photographs needed to have the building named to the National Register of Historic Places. The commission has raised matching funds for the application.  The Decorah Municipal Pool has been used continuously since it opened in 1937 and was a project between the city and the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression.  Kyrl Henderson is a member of the city commission. Henderson says its gratifying to have the building's historic significance recognized.
