Man accused of shooting police lieutenant appears in court

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- One of two men accused of shooting Dubuque Police Lieutenant Scott Baxter during a robbery earlier this week was in court Saturday morning.

46-year-old Eddie Adams is now being held at the Dubuque County Jail on $500,000 bond for his three felony charges of attempted murder, first degree robbery and unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon.

The county attorney argued Adams is a danger to the community and a flight risk.  Adams was allegedly arranging a ride to Rockford, Illinois when police arrested him Thursday night after the robbery and shooting.

However, Adams was held without bond for a probation violation.  He also has a warrant from Illinois for which he is being held on $500.

Adams' father, Eddie Chest, is also charged with the same felonies, but he is in the hospital recovering from the shootout.

Adams' next court appearance is scheduled for December 14th.

Baxter was released from the hospital Friday and recovering well from shotgun wounds in his stomach, arm and leg.
