Sheriff warns of phone scam

FAYETTE (KWWL) - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is alerting the public of a scam taking place.  Sheriff Marty Fisher says his office has been receiving reports of a scam where the caller wants you to verify your debit card number in order for your card to remain active. The calls are coming from an area code beginning with either (601) or (714).

Sheriff Fisher warns do not give out any personal information or card information over the phone. If you have given out information pertaining to your debit card or you feel your information has been compromised, you should notify your bank immediately.

Cases have been reported throughout Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties.
