Switching to LED Christmas lights

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- There's a big push this year to switch our holiday lights to LED lights.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LED lights use 90-percent less energy and can last up to 40 years.

But simply making the switch to greener lights might not be enough.

Cedar Falls Utilities is taking steps to keep old incandescent bulbs out of landfills.

CFU held its first-ever holiday light recycling day earlier this month.

People in Cedar Falls dropped off more than 400 strings of lights.

CFU will again accept old lights January 4th through the 8th at its main office.
